LNESC Austin Center Spotlight
LNESC In the Field:
The center was founded in October of 2016. The Department of Education awarded the center a five-year grant to run an Educational Talent Search Trio Program to assist low-income and first-generation students in applying to college. As an integral part of this initiative, LNESC Austin partnered with the Austin Independent School District (AISD) to serve five hundred students in eight local schools; four high schools and four middle schools. The majority (79%) of our students are first-generation and low-income.
"Our basic mission is for our students to attend university, gain credibility, and demonstrate capability. However, at LNESC-Austin we greatly emphasize that while education creates a path, it is the constant growth of one's mind that fosters our most enduring superpowers-- Hallmarks like resilience, character, and happiness are traits we try to instill with careful mentorship here. The well-rounded and engaged young citizen is the ultimate victory for us."
