 The Pepsi Escribe tu Futuro Scholarship program will grant scholarships on behalf of the Pepsi-Cola Company® to deserving students in the process of furthering their education and reaching their academic and career goals. Available to students in select markets, the Pepsi Escribe tu Futuro Scholarship is a competitive program looking to reward students fully committed to academic excellence. THE SCHOLARSHIPS DEADLINE HAS PASSED Scholarship Awards Awards vary. Successful applicants may receive anywhere from $500 to $2,000 or more in assistance. Awards are given at the councils' discretion. Awards may be utilized for educational expenses during college or post-secondary vocational school that leads to an associate's degree. Scholarships may be used for the payment of tuition, academic fees, room, board, and the purchase of required educational materials & books. The Pepsi Escribe tu Futuro Scholarship is funded by the Pepsi-Cola Company ®, to help young Latinos in their pursuit towards a college education to help improve their future and career opportunities. Administrative support for the Pepsi Escribe tu Futuro program is provided by LULAC National Educational Service Centers (LNESC), a non-profit educational organization established by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) to provide educational programs for Hispanics and other youth. Back to top Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for a scholarship: • Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident • Must have applied to or be enrolled in a college, university, including 2-year colleges, or vocational schools that lead to an associate’s degree • A student may not accept more than one LNESC-sponsored scholarship award in a given school year • A student will not be eligible for a scholarship if he/she is related to a scholarship committee member, the Council President, or an individual contributor to the local funds of the Council Back to top Application Process Applications are available on the LNESC website and from participating LULAC Councils. Please consult the list below to determine if your council is participating in this scholarship program. Students must complete the entire application. It should be mailed with a current complete official high school or college transcript of grades to the LNESC national office, at the address listed on the top of the application form, postmarked no later than February 28, 2008. Applicants are responsible for completing all necessary information, getting required signatures, and submitting all required information on or before the deadline. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Students chosen to receive awards may have their information and photographs publicized as part of Pepsi Escribe tu Futuro promotions or publicity activities. Back to top Recipient Selection Pepsi Escribe tu Futuro awardees are selected on the basis of academic achievement, participation in community service and/or extra-curricular activities, and financial need. Scholarships will be awarded based on LNESC selection procedures and funds made available by the Pepsi-Cola Company®. Awards are competitive; not every applicant will receive an award. Selection of recipients will be made by participating LULAC Councils in pre-selected markets. Only students selected as recipients will receive notification from LNESC in April. Back to top Payment of Awards Scholarship payments are disbursed by LNESC in two installments, one for the Fall and another for the Spring semester. Checks are mailed to each recipient's selecting council and are made payable to the school on behalf of the recipient. Recipients may receive awards throughout their undergraduate career. They must continue to meet all previously stated eligibility criteria and submit a new application each year. Having been a scholarship recipient in a previous year does not guarantee an applicant will be a scholarship recipient in a future year. Back to top Recipient Responsibilities Scholarship awardees must enroll in their qualifying educational institutions no later than the 2008 fall term. Awardees are obligated to respond to their award letter in a timely manner and to provide requested information such as school transcripts and proof of enrollment.
